Dr. Van Wagoner is a licensed psychologist and certified group psychotherapist specializing in individual, couples and group psychotherapy. He was named a "Top Therapist" in Washington DC by his professional peers as reported in Washingtonian Magazine, and maintains a private practice in Washington D.C. He is currently on the faculty at the National Group Psychotherapy Institute of the Washington School of Psychiatry, an adjunct clinical faculty member at Georgetown University and the University of Maryland, a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, and currently the Editor of “The Group Circle,” AGPA's newsletter. He has authored several book chapters and articles on group psychotherapy, presented extensively on group psychotherapy locally and nationally, and has been leading groups and conducting individual and couples therapy for over 30 years.
In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Dr. Van Wagoner has presented at National conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of working with intense emotions in group therapy, envy, shame and competition, and domestic violence.
Dr. Van Wagoner integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client, yet with an emphasis on relational psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy.
